The Department of Computer Science hosts a three-day open day event every two years to showcase research and project works done by faculties of the Department to the public. The aim is to give the opportunity for the public and ICT companies witness what is being produced by the Department and possibly move works off the shelf. It also targets to strengthen the University-Industry linkage by collaborating with companies and organizations in organizing the event. The event started in 2012 and is geared to various themes. This year’s theme was to tell the public about the Department being pioneer in the field of Computer Science in our country and hence the slogan: “ Where IT all Begins”. The event also intended to recognize the living legend in the history of Computer Science, IT or ICT in Ethiopia, Dr. Dida Midekso. He is the first Ph.D. holder in Computer Science in Ethiopia and establisher of the Department in Ethiopia.
The event took place from May 11, 2018-May 14, 2018 @ College of Natural & Computational Sciences and selected works of Undergraduate and Graduate students of the Department were presented as a poster display. The event was opened by the Associate Dean of the Undergraduate Program of the College, Dr. Wondwosen Mulugeta and Head of the Department of Computer Science, Dr. Dagmawi Lemma. Invited guests, staffs and students of the College also attended the opening ceremony where Dr. Dida was recognized for his diligent service and contribution to the field of Computer Science. Blood donation was also one part of the event package, where the College community and the public have donated blood to the Ethiopian Blood Bank.
The organizers would like to thank those companies who had worked together with us by supporting the event. Africom Technologies, iCog Labs and TEDECO and Entoto Poly Technic School for the catering service provided.
We believe such events shall be supported by companies and organizations working in the field as a give back to the community and also to bridge the gap between the industry and University.
